Christopher Ross’s is something of a paradox. He is a vandal colleague of Labrona where their work can often be seen alongside each others on freight trains rolling across the North West. On trains, Ross employs bold, broad strokes and big figurative charaters that fit the rugged context of the wide open spaces that these old trains rumble across. You could, however, be forgiven for thinking his gallery work is created by the hand of a different painter entirely. On canvas Ross’s work radiates a delicate, almost feminine sensibility where his bright, primary colours are counterpointed with softer golds and rusting sunsets, all carried out with filigree-fine brushstrokes that create an sense of almost fairy tale otherness – a beautiful and troubling dreamscape of childhood monsters.
