Futura

Futura 2000 is a legendary graffiti artist who starting out painting illegally on New York's subway in the early seventies. Since then he has developed his style in a highly personal way, reconceiving the familiar loops and scrawls of tagging and turning them into fluid, abstract movements across the canvas or page. He’s travelled a long way from his Bronx beginnings. Today he is a respected designer and gallery artist. His big break stemming from his involvement with The Clash – producing a sleeve for their Radio Clash 7” single, and handwriting the sleeve notes and lyric sheet for their LP, Combat Rock. Since then he has worked on campaigns for names like Nike and Calvin Klein, while still retaining a deep connection with the music industry, working heavily with. Mo’ Wax records. His imagery has also become synonymous with James Lavelle’s UNKLE project. More recently much of Futura's artwork has been channeled towards the production of highly collectible toys, and during the 1990's he was heavily involved with the clothing companies such as Subware, Phillie Blunt, and GFS.
